Medan, the capital of North Sumatra




Medan  is the economic and commercial center of the city the largest in Sumatra. The city continues to be a business center and became the gateway to North Sumatra, where tourists come for an adventure in the highlands of Lake Toba or enter the wild dense forests of Sumatra. 










In the past, Field is home to the traders and sailors. They take shelter under the rule of the Malay Islamic kingdom of Aceh Darussalam Sultanate until I surfed. During times of conflict, the location of the land is used as a battlefield between the two kingdoms there is an assumption that the word "field" is literally translated from the court or field. 




Medan modern history has started in 1860s when the pendagang realize the potential of the rich volcanic soil for plantation. In 1865 a Dutch businessman introduced tobacco in the area that deliver the future kemakmuranya field. The reason this led to an influx of foreign investment and the flow of capitalist Europe. Tobacco plants, rubber, oil palm and tea grown in all areas hapir in Medan. From a small village next field grown into a prosperous colonial city.



In 1886 the Dutch made Medan North Sumatra capital of Medan to make the population swelled to around 80,000. Now the population is a diverse field, almost every ethnicity here, like Batak, Malay, Javanese, Minang, Acehnese, India and China. 

Now the third largest city in Indonesia. Effect of a glorious past as a producer of the estate left a trail of European architecture in various city buildings. As a result, the current field into a city with a blend of modern lifestyle and colonial heritage.



Transportation 


Medan air line connected by Kualanamu International Airport, located in Deli Serdang. The airport is operated since 2013, replacing Polonia Airport 85-year-old. 



Domestic airlines that fly to Medan, among others: Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Air Asia, Sriwijaya Air, Citilink, Wings Air and Susi Air. The towns are connected Jakarta, Makassar, Batam, Banda Aceh, Bandung, Surabaya, Mount sitoli, Aek Godang, Pekanbaru, Sibolga, Takengon, Meulaboh and Simeulue. 




Kuala Namu International Airport also serves international destinations via the airline Malaysia Airlines, Mihin Lanka Air, Firefly and Valuair. The cities are connected, among others, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Subang Malaysia, Singapore and Colombo in Sri Lanka. 


Pelni also operates to connect the Port of Tanjung Medan Belawan and Batam Karimun in the Riau Islands. Some are leaving for Tanjung Priok, Jakarta.


Culinary 






Food in Medan like most food in Sumatra that spicy flavor. However, if you do not like spicy food then still be able to find food that suits your tastes. From the street side stalls cheap prices to the Chinese restaurant, Japanese and Korean, is available here. 





On the Road General Ahmad Yani, Tip Top Café is a well-known cafe society. This cafe is a comfortable place to relax and menikati Durth style cake. 
Field decorated by street vendors offering a wide range of traditional dishes. Although this place does not look fancy but serves local food is cheap and delicious. Find other popular eating place in Jalan Selat Panjang crowded in the evening with food that is ready to satisfy the tongue. 



You can go to Jalan Merdeka is located right in the heart of Medan. Its location right at Merdeka Square neighborhood, not far from Medan City Government office. This place is a hangout of the most desirable young man field with a lot of choices of cafes and restaurants .






Durian is popular throughout Indonesia is durian from Medan. Spiny fruit has a taste and a very distinctive smell that is available in various corners of the city. Sit down with the locals at a roadside stall and enjoy some tempting durian. If the taste is too strong for you, you might want to try durian cake instead. 


For dried fruit snack with a sprinkling of sugar you can find on the open market Rame from morning till evening. Find this place beside Thamrin Plaza.
