Bukit Lawang and Orangutans

The number of orangutans in the forest has been declining due to hunting, wildlife trade and the environment are damaged. This helps orangutan rehabilitation center back their natural habit by putting them through intensive training prior to release into the wild. When this re-forest primates, rehabilitation centers continue to provide food supplements and regular audits.

Activity

If you do not want to do trekking at night, you can ask the guide to take you on a trip for several hours. There are also a number of short trips around Bukit Lawang which does not require a guide or a permit. 
Feel Bohorok river flows using a rubber boat. This activity should be done under the supervision of an experienced integrator because the current is very strong here. 

Adjacent and feeding orangutan is an amazing experience. Meal times there are two stages: at 08:30 and 15:00; You can also feed them milk, bananas and other food provided by the rehabilitation center. All activities in the Gunung Leuser National Park should be done with the permission and guidance of the rehabilitation center staff. 


If you like a challenge, try hiking to the summit of Mount Leuseur (3404 meters). This trip takes about 10-14 days. Angasan small village is the starting point of the climb. The first five days will be spent trekking through the rainforest where the rare primates can often be seen. You need a healthy condition and accompanied by a guide.
