Ramayana Ballet Dance, Prambanan Temple, Yogjakarta, Central Java

RAMAYANA BALLET 
              Drama in Typical Javanese Dance 



Marvelous visualization of legendary epos in Javanese culture, Ramayana. Staged on the outdoor stage, Ramayana Ballet invites you to enjoy the story in a series of typical Javanese dance accompanied by gamelan music. 


Ramayana Ballet is a performing arts beautiful, admirable and difficult unchallenged. This performance is able to unite various Javanese arts such as dance, drama and music on one stage and one momentum to present the Ramayana story, a legendary epic written by Valmiki works in Sanskrit. 

Ramayana story presented in this performance is similar to that engraved on Prambanan temple. As many told, the story of Ramayana carved on the beautiful Hindu temple is similar to the story in oral tradition in India. The storyline is long and stressful it was summarized in four plays or round, kidnapping Sita, Anoman mission to Lanka, Kumbhakarna or death of Ravana, and the meeting re-Rama Sinta.


The whole story presented in a series of dance movements 
performed by beautiful dancers accompanied by gamelan music. You are invited to a really late in the story and observe each movement of the dancers to know the storyline. There is no spoken dialogue from the dancers, the only speakers are sinden which portrays the story through the songs in the Java language with a distinctive voice. 



The story begins when Prabu Janaka held a contest to determine the companion Dewi Shinta (daughter) who eventually won Rama Wijaya. Continued with the adventure of Rama, Shinta and Rama's younger brother named Lakshmana in the Forest Dandaka. In the forest that they meet Ravana who want to have because it is considered as an incarnation Shinta Dewi Widowati, a woman who had long sought. 



To attract the attention of Shinta, Ravana change of his followers named Marica into a deer. The effort was successful because Shinta was attracted and asked Rama to chase. Laksama after a long search for Rama would not go back while Shinta abandoned and given the protection of a magic circle so that Ravana could not be kidnapped. Protection because it failed after Ravana abducted Shinta successfully transformed itself into a figure of Drona. 



At the end of the story, Shinta been won back from Ravana by Hanuman, the monkey figure nimble and powerful. Shinta proved chastity because his body does not burn at all but she became more beautiful. Rama was eventually accepted back as a wife.
